Vets Choice is great but to be honest I give my Pitbull Montego and Ox Liver twice a day, he is a pup but Huge and healthy.

Vet's choice is made by the same people who manufacture Royal Canin, its a good food, but no better in my opinion than Montego. My last dobe litter was raised on Montego, and 2 of the male pups that i see often are very impressive.

The reason a lot of Boerboel associations recommend a certain product is simple, that product sponsors that association, its just business.

Montego is a really good product, i have fed many litters on it. A newer product in JHB called Complete is superb, its what i'm feeding now and i have some of the top dogs in the country. I have had friends try Jock on their Rotties, and have reported skin issues.

Remember that the protein % of petfood means jackshit. In there they also take the protein count of the maize into account, which dogs can't use.

I'm sure there are incentives for breeders, so there's obviously a chance that your biased towards Montego for a reason :P

My dog does well on both Montego and Jock, but farts a lot more on Montego, which seems to indicate a higher grain content. Jock seems to have a slightly superior nutritional content too, but I'm not an expert, and simply go by how energetic and healthy my dog looks.

Both brands definitely offer much better value for money than the 'vet' options.

I have tried allot of foods, i have 2 chows that just love chowing :P
Currently im feeding my dogs “Supreme Pet Elite”, it has 22% proteins and all the other stuff, its quite affordable since its R210 for 25kg, or R330 for 40KG, my problem with this food is, when you hold the pellet in your hand, it feels cheap, it does not have that nice golden brown glow to it, it also does not smell to good (in comparison to Montego)

I have also tried Montego, its slightly more expensive than Supreme Pet., its R285 for 25kg, the dogs love this food!
I have also tried Wuma, the food looks and smells great, but the dogs did not like it one bid, its also not that expensive, ± R220 for 20kg
Complete Maintenance looks like a direct replica of Montego, the dogs love it, has 20% proteïen with all the essentials, its ± R265 for 25kg
Emerald is good, also 20% proteïen, R270 for 20kg
TLC is apparently used by boerboel breeders, also 20% proteïen, R215 for 20kg

All the above mentioned food is beter than supermarket food, out of everything i have tested so far, i tend to lean towards the Complete maintance food, the dogs love it, and it last longer that the other food
