Koe, does your butcher make a deal with you for cheaper meat? I will have to try that, any tips on persuading him?
Look for your small privately owned butchery, ask them about month packs and have a look what they offer. If there is something that you dont think you need ask them to swop it for an equivelant value item. I currently get 20kgs of meat products for R900 from my local butcher. Then I throw in 4kg's of chicken breasts and some tuna tins and thats R1200. Often I have enough left to carry threw to the next month for when the budget is tight, it helps. Shop around for tins of tuna, I currently pay R6.50 per tin at shoprite so it works out cheap as a meal. Pick n Pay also have a special at some stores for silverside at R49.99 and I normally buy alot.
Hope that answers your question.

If a 5kg box of hake fillets costs +-R270 will it work out cheaper than buying tinned tuna at between R8-R9 a tin? I eat 2 tins per day as part of my diet

5kg at R270 is R54p/kg buying tuna at R8 a can @119g drained weight works out to about R67p/kg. Hope I didn't screw up the math but I'm pretty sure that's right.
