Carbo Controversy- Carte Blanche was created by Ondier
Any of you watched Carte Blanche last night? (18/03/2012)

Here is the link and the video- the short and the long comes to Prof Tim Noakes saying protein and fats all the way with only 50 - 70 gram of carbs a day.

I watched this and to be honest the guy is getting flamed for stating something which is nothing new. He basically states that a person should be on a low carb diet focussing on protein and good fats while avoiding processed fats. He is stating the obvious. This is for the avg Joe out there and it makes allot of sense to me. He does not deny that your body needs carbohydrates and obviously your body needs it for fuel. He feels the trick is to consume just the right amount for maximum performance. This amount might be allot less than currently believed. Then he goes on saying that doing stuff like carbo loading before events is not necessary. He also says that this might not be the norm as everybody reacts different to carbs

Why flame the guy for this?

I personally didn't watch it. But I have to deal with his disciples on a regular basis and these guys don't quite put the message across like Noakes does. Personally I like a lot of Nokes' stuff, he used to do some work with my father so I had a good chance to listen to him on a regular basis so my post wasn't a flame on him

No Chapel i was not referring to you. The guy is getting flamed by the public for his "new views". Would be interesting to hear what DJ says about this.

That is kinda the point. He was referring to himself and the normal individual who does not have such a active lifestyle. That was not aimed at the athlete at all

Exactly! And if you listen to what he said you would agree.

Find the least amount of carbs you can get away with. Being on this diet actually lowers that figure. You need to go on it and play around with the figures until you find the sweet spot for YOU and your lifestyle.

And yes - the kids sweets are from the Devil!

Yeah, i pretty much agreed with what he stated. Its what we've been following for years... Proteins and fats all the way, with a carb intake that is based on each individuals sensitivity and requirements. Nothing wrong with that, and for the average couch potato out there it is certainly gonna work, because sugars are definately the devil for anyone trying to lose weight, not fats

Um, but im scared of needles...

So let's say I need 300grams of protein, 300 g carbs and 100g fat to put on size. Since we agree calories make u grow and not carbs , would I grow equally as well if I ate 600 grams of protein and get my fuel from the same 100 grams of fat and through gluconeogenesis. Though this is not pratical and almost imposible to eat that amount of protein, hypothetically speaking, if it were possible, would I still grow or not

yes u would as those proteins would be converted to carbs through glucogenisis, but only at 50% of the rate,so if your body only used 300g of protein and u were eating 600g the body would covert 300g of protein into carbs at a rate of 50% so u would get in 150g of carbs... carbs when bulking are protein sparing.

there is nothing stopping u bulking with 300g protein 150g carbs and 150g fats.

Mmmh I'm not flaming, in fact- I'm following. Going to try it for a few weeks. Just wanted to hear your opinions, especially DJ's. :)

Is this not also pretty similar to the "Paleo Diet" DJ?
