Train harder than the guy next to you and one day, no-one will be able to touch you

Morning boys (and miss Sting)
Something that I've been thinking about for a while now, (sorry if this doesn't make sense)
Ok so post workout our nutrition goals are basically to spike insulin levels to absorb maximum amount of protein right?
We do this by taking in simple sugars like dextrose, vitargo, etc...
but to my understanding, doing this for a period of time will eventually make us insulin resistant, meaning that our cells that used to "open up" to insulin don't anymore.
So how do we stop this from happening while still being able to spike insulin levels after training?

Well if you limit the short sugars during the day to low gi carbs only, then when you do get an insulin spike after gym from the short sugars, then your insulin sensitivity should be very high. You become resistant only when the sensitivity to insulin disappers (from eating sugars all day long every day and in diabetics)and so your body compensates for this by producing more insulin.
Going on keto every now and then will increase insulin sensitivity to prevent resistance from developing

things such as cinnimon (sp) also help, but basically what beesting said, insulin resistance i think happens over time on a fastfood westernized diet, a bodybuilding diet if followed is very controlled

You need to take glucose disposal agents with your post workout shake (metformin; alpha lipoic acid; d-chiro-inositol etc.)
As Beesting said, keep it low GI the rest of the day.
Avoid Fructose like the plague.
The best way to reverse insulin resistance is to follow a low carb ketogenic diet for at least 60-90 days WITHOUT CHEAT DAYS AND CAFFEINE.

Is she type 1 or 2? You do run the risk of getting diabetes if it runs in the family but if you look after yourself now with a good diet then you reduce the risk drastaically. Anyone else in your familly who has/had diabetes such as your mom's parents?

she has type 2, doesn't follow a very healthy lifestyle.
and thankfully it doesn't run in the family.
I usually diet for 3-4 months outta the year using keto so should be fine with regard increasing my sensitivity.
I was just under the impression that taking in 20 odd grams of short sugars every single training day would have some adverse effects.

You need to get your mom to exercise and eat a good diet. Watching diabetes destroy a person is one of the worst experiences ever, take it from someone who knows and has seen it all. Anywyas I dont think you need to worry about yourself as you train well and follow a good eating plan.
It would be good to go for the diabetes test every few years. I assume your mom has a glucometer so every few months use it and test your blood sugar when you wake up and after meals just to check that its normal. If no one else in your family has it then risk of you getting diabetes is low...so don't stress too much mister J

Type 2 diabetes doesn't happen overnight. It's looking at something you know is bad, thinking hey this is bad then thinking well who gives a shit I want it anyway... That might sound cruel but it’s true. My dad is about 7kgs overweight on what he should be for his height, etc. he is a type 2 diabetic, suffers pains in hands, etc from sugars running high. Why? He loves coke! He says please get me a coke and I say but dad your sugars, he is like ye I know but I still want one, I just really feel like one... Now we must feel sorry for him because he is suffering pain and feeling shocking? "well yes we do because he is our family" but PISSES me off...
Also the old Dutchmen way of cooking, add sugar into everything 'food tastes great' however all the goodness you should be getting is being destroyed by the crap we throw into our food.
Eat clean and health, I would say the healthiest on this aspect would be low carb and equal fat (good fats) / protein.
As stated above some fast acting carbs after training is what the 'body wants' so this is an exception to the rule for example 'eating chocolates during the day'
Sorry, might sound like a dick for being so harsh, but you reap what you sow. Just like I have damaged my health by negligence...
Jayman: must say, smart question to ask and not play a guessing game on your health... 'hence I wish I had this forum before I made all my mistakes'
Yes type 2 diabetes is simple to control with tablets and at rare occasions with slin. But why would we want to do that for our self, for a few seconds of eating pleasure, that’s a glutton if you ask me.
