The Milk Debate was created by tiny
I know that many guys on this forum dont use milk in their diets and dont suggest the use of milk.Although its a good protein source and it fits nicely into a bulking diet.Mark Rippetoe suggest 1 gallon of milk everyday, thats 3.78 litres. And he has an amazing success rate in his program, average gain in 1 year is about 30 - 40lb(no drugs).I know the fat content is high in milk, but what about fat-free variants?

DJ,
Does eating fats and protein along with high GI food lower the insulin spike ? Like for eg. whole eggs with glass of milk.

it will mask the spike slighty but if ur not aiming for the spike then add in some fibre, it lowers the overall gi value of the meal

Thanx, so milk with oats etc. should be ok

@ ABC1 you will find many BB's when dieting have the whey with just plain water.

Milk with oats should be fine. Also take into consideration wat ur calorie intake consists of, generally low fat or fat free products have a higher carb value compared to full cream products so take into consideration wat milk u use relative to ur carb protein fat split. If u also want, try using half milk half water with ur oats that way it is still creamy but wont contribute drastically to ur overall cals

Oh one last tip, if u opt for fat free milk, u will notice that it tastes very watery if u get the fresh one, the long life one always seems to have a creamier taste

How big of an impact will a cup of milk (250ml/11.75g carbs) have on your "insulin spike"?

Not a huge impact but the degree of the spike also depends on your insulin sensitivity

In what context. It can be quite detrimental at the wrong times and helpful at the right.

With your oats or breakfast cereal. And what about the amount you use in your tea and coffee etc.?

Well if your having oats for breakfast then your planning on a low insulin spike. With 60g of oats in the morning or more the milk becomes more neglegible but with less it begins to cnsiderably raise the GI of the meal. If your having eggs with those oats then that helps keep the GI low.

If your trying to lose weight however I would keep the milk content lower... And using sparingly with coffee and tea throughout the day. Fluctuations in insulin throughout the day only serve to lessen insulin sensitivity which is never a good thing for an aspiring bodybuilder.
