Hey guys,
Big news about the Olympia Amateur Africa at Carnival in October hey?
I hear they will be handing out pro cards for the first time. Surely that has got to be the biggest body building news ever in South Africa?
Anyone on the forum using it as a goal for the year?

Hi guys,
Nationals will be the deciding factor as to whether you qualify or not for the Olympia.
A panel of judges select a team after nationals, which usually include the top two finishes. Although finishing top 2 is still not enough, as the panel then decides whether your group was high enough quality.
The hosting country (That is us haha) will be allowed a few wildcards as well, and probably a team of 50 will attend the Olympia.
I hear they are aiming at 200 from Africa, middle East and UK in total.
Anybody from other continents have to apply to obtain permission to enter.
Lets hope for the sake of the SA guys that this doesn't happen. The less athletes from the stronger nations means the higher chance of the SA boys getting their pro cards.
Bring it on!!!!
Nate

this is going to be interesting to watch,i have been to world champs to look after competitive athletes i was coaching and between the russians and egyptians, i have seen some of the most crazy conditioning to date. i personally feel that the amateurs obtain better conditioning than most pros on stage these days.
its amazing how they are offering pro cards for winning line ups at this event when the criteria from the ifbb amateur europe was that you need to place top 3 or win the overall (cant remember roman fritz's youtube clip) at the arnold classic or win overalls at world champs to qualify for pro cards like sami al haddid did. now its a free for all, i fee badly for guys like andrew hudson who have had the goal post changed many times for pro cards, but finally did everything in order to do it by winning the super heavy weight line up at the arnold classic and placing second in the overalls. it would've been alot easier for him to compete here in south africa and get his pro card vs paying to compete overseas with little or no backing financially for it by ifbbsa or bbsa (what ever bullshit name they want).

I hope it will come right for great athletes like that.
I think this contest will be a major step in the right direction for all young contest bodybuilders. We need to support it.
