Combining carbs and fats was created by LXIX
This forum has always strongly been against having carbs in a fat meal and fats in a carb meal. But I very seldom see this being a concern among the rest of the community.
Also, why the issue with taking in fats before / after training? I agree that is might slow absorption of other nutrients slightly but that's about it...
Anyone care to elaborate?

The only meal I don't have carbs and fat in is my post workout shake. Otherwise I have carbs and fats in every meal apart from only protien and fat before bed.

I think the whole idea of one or the other energy source is a bit outdated.

LXIX, highly debatable depending on goals. If you are a endurance athlete (like marathon runner) it is totally beneficial to mix the two.
But I know we are talking body-building here so the argument changes.
So the first reason would be fat accumulation: The carbs spike insulin, insulin is a storage hormone, so insulin + dietary fat = getting fatter. Right? Well You don't need insulin spike to get fat. You also don't need carbs to raise insulin levels. You fatten up just eating chicken tits and broccoli; caloric balance (in vs. out) still plays a role disregarding macro's and what the name of a food is. I'm not sure how much study has gone into separation of the two for preventing fat gain, but it I guess it makes a bit of scientific sense for a strategy against gaining more fat or loosing it faster. If somebody can come up with a scientific argument against separating the two, that's cool, but it works for me cause I plan my meals that way and if I'm hungrier after a meal, I just eat more fibre or slightly more protein and don't feel guilty. In other words I use it as a compliance tool.
PS: People like Dr John M Berardi made this thing popular, but I'm sure a lot of bodybuilding sources promulgate exactly the same notions.
Second would be absorption: If someone can provide scientific evidence to why this logic doesn't make sense, go ahead. But logically, at the times I want to eat carbs, I either don’t need the dietary fat (post workout drink is complete without fat) or need it for digestion (my pre/post workout meal are always full of fibre). I eat my fats at night so the protein take a little while to digest (you don't need casein or 2AM meals stay anabolic!) I also think people need to understand the difference between absorption and digestion. To make a meal faster/ slower to digest, add fibre or fat. That makes it sit in your gut longer. To make absorption better, ensure good colonic, stomach and bacterial health.
Most important: hit your calories and macros.

Just a quick add:
I think the focus needs to go back to "protein with every meal" as apposed to, "protein + carbs or protein + fats". I speculate that's where most misinterpretation happens.

Nothing makes rice taste better than a table spoon or 2 of olive oil.
