Ok so I've been eating around 5kgs of chicken fillets a week (one pack of 700g a day) for the past few months and I'm getting kinda bored of it, and so I want to try Canned Tuna again.

Hopefully after a few weeks of this and it'll spark my interest in chicken again. I want to keep things relatively lean, but I am by no means prepping for a contest and so that isn't my number one goal. Just looking to make it slightly better tasting

Planning on mixing it with my cous cous for every protein + carb meal I have - any suggestions for flavouring?

Hey MK. What I friggen love is shredded tuna and avocado, just like that with salt and freshly ground pepper. Otherwise for a carb meal try this (laugh at me but it's good): Make mielie-pap but overcook it a bit or make it crumby, then mix in tuna and add coriander and steamed spinach. You'll be surprised how meaty tuna can taste.

Thanks Furk will definitely try that.

I will only limit myself to the Avo with my fats meals unfortunately, and what about Feta and Rosa tomatoes?

I've tried mielie-pap and was told that it wasn't a complex carb source so I stopped eating it? Eating cous-cous, you should try it. All I do is pour cold water over it and let it sit for a minute or two.

Oh ja I really dig middle-eastern foods. I only eat avo late in the day as well, I thought it goes without saying avoid it in your carb meal. Like nuts, avo can be deceiving.

I would eat mielie-pap over rice any day (especially white rice). Maize meal is less glycemic than brown rice and lots of our South African maize meal are enriched with LOADS of vitamins and minerals cause it's a staple food for the majority populace. Just keep an eye out, there was a thread on here some time ago giving advice on genetically modified foods and one brand of mielie-pap was a culprit.

EDIT: I think it was Impala.

Excerpt: Impala maize meal was found to contain 66.18% GM maize. This maize is consumed daily by millions of South Africans as an integral part of their staple diet.

Sorry bud i cant help here i hate tuna  i force it down with water just to get the calories in. I have not tried this but if you cant find anything else try add some fresh dill and lemon juice or even caramelized onions and chopped jalpinos.

With hard work and dedication you can achieve anything!

The only way I can get tuna down these days is with mayo which makes it a big no for me. If you are swapping 700g/day chicken breasts for tuna I'd be concerned about 5 cans a day of tuna's worth of mercury. That's way over the recommended daily limit.

Why not add in some lean steak to your diet? It costs more and has a bit more fat but at least you will get more enjoyment out of your food, and you can still stay very lean if you find the leanest pieces and then cut off all the bits of fat. When I take a break from chicken I make steak sosartis and braai a enough for 2 days. That give me enough time to mentally prepare for more chicken breasts.

Macro's bra, per unit weight chicken breast fillets and tinned tuna are very similar compared to even the leanest cut of beef.

Okay thanks for the inputs guys. I just bought like 15 cans of tuna which should last me til Sunday, was actually planning to eat 6 to 7.5 cans a day, and to be honest I thought all that concerning mercury was just a myth. Glad I now know that, especially it's effects on mental well-being!

Will get some steak on Sunday as I use my Sundays to cook food for the next 4 days.

Just by the way, I tried some tuna tonight with a tiny bit of mayo and Danish feta with a few mini tomatoes and i was pleasantly surprised. I actually enjoyed eating it!

Nothing wrong with tuna, just not in the amounts you were planning. I have a can every day when dieting. I eat it as is, but with 2 tablespoons of olive oil on it. It's not great, but I can can get it down.

Have you considered game or ostrich?

I'm eating quite a bit of game from the local Spar. The price of game is pretty much on par with that of steak these days.
