Biltong was created by AE
Okay so the other day someone argued that biltong has much less protein than people think. Reason being that when dried is prepared the meat is left in a shit load of vinegar and it’s an acid and it breaks down some of the protein in the meat especially game biltong which is leaner. How true is this? Can't find any tests done on this.

Everyone loves biltong but at the price per KG these days I would cut it out much more and rather eat more steak.

I know some smartass will have an answer..... ;)

I'm not the smartass;) .. But I'm sure biltong is rather high in protein compared to other sources, I used to buy these small packets from dischem (when they still sold them) , of 50g biltong, and on the lable stated 30g of protein per 50g serving, I'm pretty sure that's a winner... ?? But maybe some1 else can give a real input haha

Dont stress bro, there is not alot of vinegar on biltong. I make my own biltong and you just brush on some vinegar onto the raw meat before you spice it,thats all, it does not lay in vinegar at all. The protein content is still decent, the only problem i found with biltong is because of teh salt content you end up retaining some water, all depends on how much you eat.

Definitely plenty protein in Biltong. Probably the most Protein dense food out there, but as Gambit says, the sodium is super high.

Sodium intake is another discussion all together too!!!

I think the best option for biltong is buying from a butchery where they make it themselves (probably goes for regular meat too) and they choose what goes in. I looked at the ingredients of PnP biltong, lots of additives and stabilzers, can't be that all biltong is made that way. I've made Springbok biltong from salt and spices alone and it was fine...
