Training to failure was created by MCJ
Hi guys
I train every set of every workout to failure. Let's say my rep range is 10, I choose a weight I can do for 10 reps failing at the 10th. I the stick to that weight for the following few sets trying to achieve the same amount of reps and more. Using the same weight untill I exceed the amount of reps I've set for myself. When that happens I increase the weight the following workout few days later.
Is this correct?
I don't see the point in using a weight for only 10 reps when u could actually squeeze out another 2 reps easily.
Or is the increase in weight necessary after each set and not training to failure every set?
I knw this is a rookie question but its something I want to clear up.

Dorian Yates says thats the proper way to train , He calls is H.I.T style ( High Intensity Training). Small breaks and reps to total, utter failure. He believes it gives the best results.
But I can see why u ask the question , I sort of would like it cleared up aswell - Mainly because when I see the pro's on their vids training , they doing their sets but u never see them go all the way to failure ( some exceptions , Branch Warren and a few others)
If any1 does P.T , could u update us on what the best training methods are today , as science is always coming up with something new.

First there's no way you will be able to do more than what you did the previous set due to muscle exhaustion, maybe you are not doing it to the complete failure? Anyways yes you should go heavier if you can, It will definitely not be a few days later though. I am not a big fan of MF, I will maybe do a MF for each muscle group once a month and that's it. I believe MF is more of a muscle exhaustion than a muscle stimulation(growth). Best of luck though!!

There is no best way to train. Bodybuilding is individual and you must figure out what fits you best. Try a certain type of training 3-4 months and check the results and go to the next. That's the great thing about BB.

Failure is a technique and shouldn't be overused, you should only ever go to failure on your last set of a specific exercise. Let's say for instance you were planning to train chest today and your max bench is 100kgx10, if you train to failure in your first set your workout will probably look like this:
100x10 (failure)
100x6 (failure)
100x3 (failure)
While if you stop at one or two reps short of failure it'll look more like this:
100x8
102.5x8
105x6 (failure)
You're likely to get more reps using heavier weights if you don't go to failure on every set, yet you'll still overload your muscles as you would've increased volume AND overall intensity PLUS you would still have gone to failure in your last set. Training to failure also usually leaves you feeling burnt out after a few weeks of training like that

Using deadgoats example
100kg x 10 reps
100kg x 6
100kg x 3
Then the following week if stronger it looks like this
100kg x 11
100kg x 7
100kg x 4
So in essence u have become stronger etc and then continue that trend untill u surpass those goals. Let's say:
100kg x 13
100kg x 10
100kg x 8
And thus leading to a person using a heavier weight the following week following the same principle (as an example).
That's what I have bn doing and each week I can squeeze in an extra rep per set. In essence having a heavier workload than the previous week. And still increasing the weight every few weeks.
