Hyperextensions good or bad?? was created by stripflOw
The other day I was training and I was at a VA that did not have this (File Removed)
I bumped into a professional bodybuilder guy that I know through a friend and I asked him where the hyperextension equipment was. Little did I know I was going to get lectured on how "kak" hyperextensions are. To cut a story short he said you want your back in a V shape therefore you train lower back from the top down and not from bottom up. He told me if I do these exercises I will have odd looking mid area which will get thick and I will not get the V shape. What I dont understand is the erector spinae is a muscle that runs up spine like this and not across your mid area? I dunno if what the oke is speaking about is bullocks or it has some sort of truth to it. Any of you guys got something to add to this?

Where did you get that awesome pic of hypers from? I like it.

How is the training and diet going bro? Closer to your goals, progress?

I do hypers, I usually throw them in after Deadlifts to really force the lower back pumps to the point of crying.

Diet im still working on, but ive contacted DJ to help me on this. I just cant pay up yet, being unemployed n all. At the moment ive reduced my carbs quite alot, only chow carbs before gym and maybe in the morning.

Been doing that 6 months program from MAX OT. Im about 7 weeks in. It doesnt look like im getting size but im getting more defined. Ive also noticed my weight has stayed the same but my bf is dropping. Went back onto creatine after 3 month break. So im also hoping that will give me size. I think my protein intake is what limiting my growth. Ill need to look into it seriously this time. In terms of goals, being 90kg and lean... think I got still a while to go. :)

One thing ive noticed, nobody puts up pictures of themselves and any progress they make? Why is that??

As for the picture... Google is my best friend. Haha.

Back on the topic though, you do do them and not ignore the exercise completely. It makes me wonder what kind of pro BB this guy is. :P

Dorian Yates use to do 2 sets dead lifts and 2 sets weighted hyper extensions, so if a six time Mr.O can do it then anybody can. He has still one of my all time favourite backs, so yeah you may continue doing hypers.

Well bro on a low carb intake, if you are noticing that you are toning up and looking meaner then I'd say it's working ;). Hang in there bud, it's not an overnight transformation and I for one have confidence in you! Certainly you'll start to pick up a kg or two of muscle after the creatine is kicking again but may not notice it with the continued bf% drop...

As for the hypers I'm glad me and Dorian agree :P , but everybody has their own opinion of what gives a better X-frame for body building and keeps a smaller waste. Marius Dohne doesn't even Deadlift as he says it'll take his small midriff away... Each to his own I guess. :silly:

Hyperextensions are an awesome way to strengthen the core muscles if done properly. B) Its all to often people overlook the lower back and focus on upper and mid.

Well Marius Dohne told me this weekend deadlift is a powerlifting movement that will result in a big thick trunk, and that he only do hyperextensions to maintain the small waistline. So this, as usual, is also a controversial topic.

Yo what do you mean by that? He does deadlifts + hyperextensions or just hyperextesions and no deadlifts

Sounds like no deadlifts, only hyperextensions.

Yeah in size matters DVD he also stats that deadlifts makes the waist bigger.

I think Marius is very good and what he does and i respect him but i dont believe that statement, ive been deadlifting forever and a day my waist line hasnt gone past 32.

Speaking of marius heres some latest pics of him...

I agree, everywhere you will read that deadlift is the king of upperbody exercises, but then again the "thick trunk theory" is something to keep in mind, but then again the same goes for heavy squats and leg press

It is something to think about but so is this 'theory' that doing sit ups to the either side causes your waist to widen...

I cant see how any serious lifter who wants to gain the maximum amount of muscle mass possible can ignore the Deadlift.this lift will strengthen not only the entire back, but the musculature of the hips, abdominals, and legs, as well as work the grip, proficiency in this lift is a must. Like the squat, the deadlift will stimulate a growth response from the body that should carry over into strength and size gains in other areas.
It forces your body to synthesise the maximum amount of protein, pushes your testosterone and GH levels through the roof and uses 80-90% of your body's musculature to do 1 rep.Which no other single movement can do,squats come close, but not close enough.

Hyper-extension is not a compound movement. And i seriously doubt it keeps your waist slimmer.
