What is your opinion about AST Sports Science’s Max-OT training program?

Originally I thought that 4-6 reps/set might not be enough, but I gave it a try and now I think that it’s actually working.

For those not knowing what I’m talking about; here is the link to the program: www.ast-ss.com/max-ot/max-ot_intro.asp

I've been training for 5 years, and this is the best programme i've ever been on. The gains that i made are amazing! I've been on the programme for 3 months now, and gained about 5kg, without juice (just using vitargo and whey) and i've never been stronger.

That's good to hear; the last thing I want to do is waste time on a program that don't work. I agree about the strength increase, I also like the low reps, because I concentrate better and can use really heavy weights.

I have read a part of the Max-Ot Program. Just have a question regarding the control with which the weight should be lifted.

I know that you are going to use a very heavy weight, thus you will be compromising form or control of the weight in some way.

I train this way: Lift the weight in an explosive manner, squeeze for about 2 seconds at maximum contraction and then lowering it for about 4 seconds. Is this the right way to train?

Yeah, the form is sometimes compromised; especially with exercises like bicep curls, but then you can use substantially more weight.

Lets say that you can do barbell bicep curls with 50kg in perfect form, but if you compromise the form somewhat you can go up to 65kg; which is better? I think that 65kg is better since you will put more effort into curling the heavier weight.

But that doesn't count for squats, bench press or dead lifts... you might get hurt if you cheat with those.

As for your training method, if it works for you then it's the right way.

With Max Ot u will lose a bit of form BUT ur form must never be loose. Its the heavies weight u can handel 4-6 reps with decent form. NOT strict form either because you will get hurt doing that as well. Ur body is made to make natural movements-deveate from that with 2 loose or strict form with a heavy weight in your hands and you will book yourself of

My personal opinion is that Max-Ot is not for definition training. Max-Ot is more for strenght and mass gain.

When doing definition training, you will do more super-sets and up your reps on certain exercizes.

Most important of all is that your DIET has to be 100%. If you are on a calorie defecit, or if you stick to your LBM's maintenance calories, you are on the right track.

Add 20 minutes of low intensity cardio post-workout, and your on your way to get very good results.

Definition training??? I dont even believe that exists-ask Dorian Yates if he ever deviated of his HIT traing -which really is the grandaddy of Max OT. definition comes with diet- size/mass/ muscle comes with the stimulation and feeding of muscle cells. I have just come off a cutting phase-traing Max-OT with HIT cardio and I have never been bigger, nor more defined in my life.

Ok, I started Max-Ot on 2008-01-02, seeing that the first was a public holiday.

Nway, I'm following the program step by step whilst using the maximum weight that I can lift. I did this for 2 days and didn't feel that sore from training the next day... So, I know that I wasn't stimulating the muscle to the full, so I went back to the drawing board.

I decided to lower my weight a bit and improve on my form and control of the weight. Focusing on the weight working the muscle. I upped my tempo a bit from the two previous days. Woke up this morning and my muslces feel sore :)

This is how it is supposed to be hey? I mean if you are not feeling sore the next day after a heavy workout, then you know that something is lacking, right?

Don’t sacrifice form, but use the heaviest weight you can. You have to find a balance between form and weight. I can do barbell bicep curls with 75kg, but then I have to swing a little to get it up and that’s no good. But if I use 40kg with perfect form and do it nice and slow, I can feel the muscles working.

Some of my muscles never pain the next day, no matter how hard I train them. Eg. Shoulders, Lats and Calves.

Yeah , I think it was Netro or MxT (what happened to him)
that pointed me towards MAX-OT.

Vega check on the website there are quite a few combinations ... the one thing you might find is that is not alot of excercises (so you will feel ilke you are undertraining) but it allows you to up the intensity to the max

Nothing worth doing is ever easy.

hmmm, not so sure about this max-ot for myself.. I for 1 know I have to train arms twice a week to grow them intensly, I also know my body and tried _everything_ and know that I need 10/12 reps to see huge size increase and 1 lower rep 6/8 to help with my strenght, I swop that 6/8 either after my warmup or the last set. I use allot of different techniques for my own body to grow. I have found so many articles to say that 4/6 might be a great way to build strength but no truth what so ever in its ability to build muscle. I believe you have to shock it into a veriety of different things, I also believe forced reps are a must. not allways but at times, also drop sets... negatives this week positives the follow, light week heavy week.. I change things all the time and I grow from it... i'm allways getting bigger and stronger and doing the technique they lay out would just never work for me.

but like I said everyone is different, I do believe hard gainers have to train different contrary to what they might say.

anyway thats my 2 cents, hope it has/does work for everyone that wants to follow it. I doubt you can cause any harm in trying it and if it works for you great, if not know that people are different... good luck!

I've got a couple of ladies at my gym asking about Max OT. Can they also train on this program or is it not recommended for women?
