About Blood Tests - FYI was created by Oupiel
Just been to Lancet @ the local Mediclinic.

Filled in the form myself, selected:
  • Testosterone (F.T.I)
  • LH
Guy informed me that the Testosterone test includes:
Total Test
Free Test
SHBG

No issues or funny questions - great service in fact, painless too with 21g needle.

I didn't do FSH, as I have had the snip and care less about the swimmers.

Left out medical aid details.
Paid with my C-Card R 561.00 incl. VAT

Drew 2 x "vials" of blood.

Results ready for me to collect, in person only, Tomorrow.

So I got my results:
I'm 43, last cycle 2011

Total Test = 10.5 nmol/L

>12 nmol/L: probably does not require therapy
<8 nmol/L: May benefit from Testosterone Therapy
8-12 nmol/L: If symptomatic & supported by a decreased free testosterone level,
May benefit from Testosterone Therapy

Free Test = 224 pmol/L (Ref. range 180 - 739 pmol/L)

> 250 pmol/L considered normal
< 180 pmol/L indicate hypogonadism
180-250 pmol/L may provide supportive evidence for treatment, dependant on clinical symptoms.

SHBG = 28.8 nmol/L (Ref. range 11.1 - 78.1 nmol/L)

LH = 6.2 U/L (ref. range 1.7 - 8.6 U/L)

Not so happy about this!!

Thanks man, makes me feel a bit better.

Might explain why I was hitting the wall & not recovering very well between workouts while on keto diet.

Changed to "normal" diet & feeling a lot better, recovery wise.

Yeah, I got distracted by a child's toy, as in bicycle.
Most fun I've had with my clothes on.
If you call going commando in lycra, wearing clothes.
racing weight = 75kgs

After a long break, getting fat and unfit, I'm back.

Now I'm trainingoing in the gym like a bodybuilder again
cycling with my boys for fun on the weekends.

Done a diet yoyo, down to 75kgs to loose fat and back up to 81kgs with lean gains.
just had a bio assessment at 12% body fat.

Cycle starts end of this month if my bf% is below 12%.

Gonna be the best looking 45 year old you've ever seen - excluding my face (nothing I can do there)

Excellent, you seem like you know what you are doing so it would be great to see a cycle log.
Exclude face if you're ugly :P

Were you on keto or just getting off of keto while doing the tests?

It's not affected by Keto then. What supplements do you take? Sleeping enough? Lots of stress? Sick? All of these plus many more could affect test levels. I.m.o Your levels aren't bad they aren't very good for someone who exercises and diets on your level so it could indicate something lacking.

The 2 that ring a bell are stress and sleep.
Fixing that right now!

On holiday fishing with boys for 2 weeks.
First proper break in a long time.
Also getting lots of sleep in.

Might be worth a retest when I'm back home?

Suplements:

Creatine
whey & casein protein, 1st thing as I wake, pre & post WO & before bed.
mustivitamin

I wouldn't no. Hormone levels won't have changed significantly in such a short time. Eliminate those factors for at least a month or two and then retest. Do you supplement with Zinc and Magnesium?

Ah, the port star supplements.....

I actually did for a month while on keto diet.
I honestly can't tell you if they made a difference.

Anyone who sweats a lot is at risk of a Zinc or Magnesium deficiency and it can kill testosterone production by up to 50%. You might not feel this difference consciously but it will make a huge difference to your body.

This stuff: www.bssa.biz/pBSZMA/ZMA-100g.aspx ??

Comes in powder form? Mix with a glass of water and drink?
Seems as if it could have a lot of positive benefits, although I'd imagine only if you are lacking in Zinc and Magnesium?

Interesting about the sweating a lot. I have heard a lack of magnesium can lead to jaw clenching and such.

For some Abs are made with lighting & angles... For others they are made in the kitchen.
