Then I also heard about some e-tagging thing you buy that make the fees less, but I'm not going to waste even more money on some bullshit money making scheme those paddavisse in government brainstormed. Fok, what are they going to do if I just refuse to pay? What are all the taxes for... "income tax", "CO2 tax", "capital gain tax"... next they will even let me pay "being a white boer tax".

regz wrote: They reckon if you don't register for an etag you get charged almost triple if I'm not mistaken. This etolling is a fat joke. I want to see the admin and logistics involved not to mention cost to track down the offending parties that we inevitably pay for with tax money. Lets hope the charades that happen on the 26th is enough to put a stop to it.
I heard it was 6 times the "normal" price of 30c per kilometre.
They should have called it e-trolling... lol... eish

Now - think about this nicely......
How big are those servers that will handle the load? Is this toll system interfacing with ENATIS?
Can ENATIS handle the extra load? mmmmmmm dont think so. Will have to wait and see.
AARTO has been threatening to "arrive" since 1997 - its still not here. I'm not jumping to buy a e-tag just yet.

MEDIA STATEMENT BY THE
INKATHA FREEDOM PARTY
Cover-Up On E-Tolling Project Reminiscent Of Pre-1994 Tactics
11 March 2012
The IFP said today that it was shocked to learn the real reasons behind government's push to ensure the controversial Gauteng e-tolling project succeeds.
It is reported today, that the Public Investment Corporation - an investment manager for state institutions - has bought R17 billion in SANRAL bonds. 89% of this investment is made-up of the Government Employees Pension Funds.
"Finally it is clear why government wants to save this project at all cost, despite it being unfeasible and despite it receiving so much public resistance. These types of cover-ups were prevalent during the apartheid regime, but never could one have imagined such a huge cover-up in our post-democratic dispensation," said Narend Singh MP, the IFP's spokesperson on Finance and on the e-tolling project.
It is now clear that there are huge economic issues at stake. If the tolling project fails, Government will not only have to bail-out SANRAL, but it will also have to bail-out the civil servants' pension funds as well.
"It is clear that Government finds itself between a rock and a very hard place," said Singh.
He added, "This matrix that we find ourselves in now is totally untenable, especially since the pensions of ordinary citizens are at stake. Government has misled the public. We believe that this might possibly be one of the biggest post-democratic era scandals to date. I will raise this matter at the next possible opportunity at Parliament, as the taxpayer deserves answers on this matter," concluded Singh.

INLSA
In the long term an e-tag will expose you to many disadvantagers that could outweigh any discounts you might receive. Picture: Bongiwe Mchunu
Johannesburg attorney Deon Botha has assessed the SA National Roads Agency's e-toll terms and conditions - and this is a summary of the pros and cons he lists.
DISADVANTAGES OF REGISTERING FOR AN E-TAG
Discounts promised will not apply to all toll roads.
You will be forced to ensure there is enough money in your e-toll account. If you don't, Sanral has the right to hand your account over to its Violations Processing Centre.
Sanral can set out a period within which your account must be settled (seven days).
Should you fail to pay when asked to Sanral has the right, without notice, to suspend your account, red-list the e-tag and hand over the account for collection to the VPC. Should you prove to be in the right, you will have no claim against Sanral.
You agree that failure to pay may result in criminal proceedings against you.
You will be liable for extra fees and attorney charges incurred by Sanral in the collection of outstanding e-toll amounts.
You accept that the fees charged by Sanral are correct - if you believe they are incorrect, the onus is on you to prove it.
Sanral may update its conditions at any time and you are not allowed to disagree.
By registering for an e-tag, you give Sanral blanket indemnity for wrongdoing, loss or damage you may suffer on an e-toll road.
ADVANTAGES OF NOT REGISTERING
In the event of receiving an incorrect reading from Sanral, theft or cloning of number plates, you will not automatically be liable. Sanral will have to prove your vehicle travelled the claimed distances.
Payments will be made by you into Sanral's bank account - you will have their bank details but they won't have yours.
Sanral's collection division, VPC, will not have any jurisdiction over non-registered drivers.
You will be entitled to monthly statements without charge.
If you're in dispute with Sanral, it will not be able to prevent you from using the toll roads in the meantime.
Losses suffered by you, the driver, can be recovered via civil action.
Sanral will not have the right to access the personal information of any non-registered user.
In the event of a dispute, Sanral will have to issue a civil summons or proceed criminally against the driver and will have to prove its case in a magistrate's court.
SANRAL SPEAKS OUT
For the first time, an in-depth view into the government's decision to go ahead with e-tolling has come to light, revealing an infrastructure plan which would boost the economy and where toll fees were originally meant to subsidise public transport.
This is contained in Sanral's answering affidavit defending an urgent interdict taken against it to stop e-tolling from going ahead at the end of the month.
The Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance filed papers before the Pretoria High Court in March calling for a stop to e-tolling in Gauteng, saying:
Sanral failed to give proper notice of the intention to toll.
Notice to toll was not sufficiently communicated to the public.
The cost of collection was disproportionate to the recovery costs.
Enforcement was practically impossible.
Sanral and the minister of transport did not properly consider alternative methods of funding.
Sanral's application to the minister omitted information on the cost of collecting the toll.
There was inadequate public transport.
The e-toll terms and conditions were unfair in terms of the Consumer Protection Act.
SANRAL'S ANSWERING AFFIDAVIT
This was submitted to the court a week ago and rejects the alliance's application, saying it should not be considered urgent because the government has made their intentions to toll clear since 2007.
Sanral argues that if any interdict stops the project it will have far-reaching long-term consequences.
The affidavit reads: “Sanral would then have to incur the expense of administering and operating the tolling network, without any income accruing. This would place Sanral in breach of its contracts with ETC JV.”
This, it argues, would cause it to default on loans which would jeopardise its international credit rating which could in turn compromise South Aafrica's credit rating.
Sanral said the process to introduce e-tolling started in 1998.
The affidavit says the intention to toll was advertised in newspapers in 2008 and gives the minister of transport's reply to a few concerns that were raised at the time.
The then minister describes the project to include: “The promotion of ride-sharing through the provision of park and ride facilities, high occupancy vehicle lanes and integration with public transport services such as Bus Rapid Transport and Gautrain.” - Pretoria News

Henk Bolhuis [Ex-Deputy Chief Traffic Officer of Pretoria]
TAX
I think, and I am sure that many of you are the same, that the tolls are a disgrace, both the extortionate toll fees themselves and also the widely published fact that we are expected to pay up to R18 BILLION over the next 10 years just to collect the toll fees.
I wanted to share the clarity of thought in this mail and agree that I will not be installing anything on my car.
They are not going to have easy access to my bank account, they say they want a debit order - forget it.
Send me a bill (by registered mail) every time - and I will pay it just as fast as I pay the speeding fines that arrive by normal post (which I also ignore).
Together we can make this whole thing fail - as it should.
Let the toll gates stay there, not working, as monuments to people power.
Let's call this the start of the SA Awakening, look what the normal people are achieving in North Africa with the Arab Awakening.
I hope this goes around at least a billion times.
Taxes and Open Road Toll Fees
People should not install the transponders but still use the highways and force the government to issue accounts and summonses to all
motorists until such time they drop the prices.
The government will be forced to send out millions of accounts every month and they don't have the manpower to do it.
This is the best and easiest way to boycott the system.
What is the government going to do about motorists from other neighboring
countries that don't have these transponders?
South Africans are too complacent and its time we fight back.
WE have paid for these roads.
Now they are also proposing a 1% tax to fund the SABC
Circulate this to all your friends!!!!!!!!
Has anyone thought just how much tax we are already paying?
a. 35% on your salary
b. 14% on everything you buy (bar fresh produce) and services rendered.
c. Carbon tax if you buy a new car (besides the 14% VAT you have to pay)
d. Tax on the fuel you put in your car to run it.
e. Toll on our roads – and for some it is going to come to a whopper of 10% of your salary (If you earn R10 000.00 a R1 000 would go toward tolling if you migrate between PTA and JHB every day.)
Bully to try and pacify me with the idea that I can claim it back from my income tax!!!
I have to fork out the money first. Going on holiday to DBN? Remember to save up your R1000.00 for tolling.
To say the least - For every R10.00 you earn, the government is already taking approx R6.00 and still they want more. Are you happy with the R4.00 you are getting?
NICE!!!!!
When are we going to get up and do something about it? Where is
all the money going to?
It is definitely not being spent on what it should be - our hospitals are in a state of disrepair, our schools in shambles, our roads full of potholes, our water contaminated, sewers not working, left in the dark because Eskom failed to do their upgrades, the poor are poorer still, municipalities on the brink of collapse, and so the list goes on.
Heard about the youth day celebration that cost R100 million?
Mmmm... did you pay for it?
Oh yes sir/madam you did! R100 million that could have paid for a couple of things our country needed more.
And to put the numbers in perspective:
The next time you hear an SA politician use the word 'billion'in a casual manner, think about whether you wanted the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its press releases:
A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B.. A billion minutes ago Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
C. A billion Rand ago was only 27 hours and 12 minutes at the rate our SA government is squandering it
(over a billion rand a day??!!)
Building Permit Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporation Tax
Income Tax
Value Added Tax
Fishing License Tax
Food License Tax
Fuel License Tax
Petrol/Diesel Tax
Hunting License Tax
Luxury Tax
Property Tax
Service charge taxes
Capital gains Tax
Social Security Tax
Securities Transfer Tax
Road Usage Tax
Local Tax
Vehicle License Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Worker's Compensation Tax
STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Don’t forget about the TV license Tax that we pay to see the same programs and movies year after year after year.
Hardly any of these taxes existed 20 years ago...
And our nation was one of the most prosperous in Africa.
We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the largest middle class in Africa and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.
What happened ?
ANSWER :
Look at the Government.....and who is 'running' the country....
INTO THE GROUND - on YOUR and MY 'billions'!!!
We hope this goes around at least a billion times.
