ketogenic diet

my plan is to follow a ketogenic diet but I wanna add in some heat and clenbuterol, however the extra caffeine in heat will result increased insulin production which is not very beneficial to the diet.
so firstly I would like to know if there is a way to incorporate the clen and the heat into this diet?
and whether or not I should just keep to the tried and trusted calorie restricted diet without getting too fancy with ketosis?
Thanx boys!!!

I dont think you need to stick to the calorie restictions, as most of the calories will come from fat (replacing carb in the diet).. Im not saying go over board though. You should get some ketone sticks (the dual ones that measure blood sugar are even better but harder to get)and this will allow you to see how far into ketosis you are. You can get them at a pharmacy.

It's true not only will caffeine increase insulin by raising blood sugar but it blocks the enzyme phosphodiesterase, which prolongs the action of insulin.
When it comes to ketosis, i wouldn't worry about the caffeine. I'm a serious caffeine addict and i still managed to lose over 1kg a week, doing the ketogenic diet w/caffeine and 3x moderate 20mins cardio sessions a week.
Try it for yourself. If you find that your weight loss plateus then watch the calories (whilst still doing the ketogenic diet) and bump up the cardio.
Be prepared though the first 3 days of a ketogenic diet is hell, but that will pass. Sugarfree Redbull is your best friend in those first few days.

beesting,i have been reading alot about the pulambo diet which is pretty much the a keto diet, the whole thing is there should be no carbs from direct sources like oats would be a direct source yet full cream milk wouldnt even though it contains lactose, does it make sense? so nuts/peanut butter is fine as the protein and fat content is higher than that of the carb content
I get what you are saying with regards to the fat:protein:carb ratio but in order to go into ketosis, you need to limit carbs to approximately 20g/day. These carbs should be spread throughout the day and lactose from milk is only going to contribute a small amount of carbs/100ml to the total carb count. Peanut butter is fairly low in carb, especially the yum yum sugar free one, but it still has 5.5g carb/tablespoon. Thats already a quarter of of the total carbs per day.

I did this diet many years ago so I do have experience with regards to the advice Im giving. My brother has also done the diet and has had great results even when coming off the diet by introducing carbs slowly and ones that are low GI

oh and beesting one more que about the keto diet.
is the high carb days simply to help maintain intensity during training or does it help shift
you into a more anabolic state also?
coz if it's simply to maintain intensity I was thinking of staying in ketosis permanently to maximise fat loss?

What about Fibre? We need fibre to keep us regular (bowel movements) so what do you take to keep you regular?
Best way I could ask it...

The thing with the ketogenic diet is that over the weeks there is a slower reduction in fat loss so the carb days are to shift between the metabolic pathways as well as to load up glycogen levels so your body never becomes comfortable with what its doing and so it wont slack. I personally dont think the carb days are necessary until weeks later, from my experience. I reckon stay on the diet for six weeks and see what results you get. I would be strict for a minimum of 4 weeks with 20 g carb and week five increase carbs to between 25-30g (per day) and week six add in another five g per day. I really think you should get the keto sticks because you can see what an increase of 5g carb is doing to your ketone levels as the sticks give you a range with regards to the level of ketosis
I agree, having cheat meals and carb loading is playing a dangerous game when doing a ketogenic diet. If you have too many carbs you'll knock yourself out of ketosis and you will lose 3 days of fat burning. You'll also find yourself dreaming of pizza and chocolate, when your next meal is supposed to be back to tuna and olive oil. The longer you stay off carbs, the more you break sugar/serotonin addiction. After a month you won't even want to cheat.

Yes, a fibre supplement is usually needed in the first week or two as your body adjusts to a ketogenic diet. Get some Psyllium husk.
