Oats vs Oats was created by Samurai_X
Afternoon guys. So, a stupid question, i have 150g oats in the morning as part of my breakfast and also 150g oats as PreWO meal. My question: Is there a nutritional difference between eating the oats normally (with hot water) or just blending it in a blender with water. Same with eggs, i have my eggs raw in a glass.

I understand that having the oats blended will mean i get hungry faster. Is there any other difference on the nutritional value when consumed differently ?

Thanks

howzit dude. i cant see how the nutritional values of the oats would change at all. rather cook your eggs bud, you digest more of the protein when the eggs are cooked opposed to when they are raw. Also, salmonella would suck ha ha

No disrespect meant, but what is the odds of salmonella poisoning ? I read its 1 / 30 000. By washing the egg you can reduce the risk of poisoning. I have mine raw because its saves time and 6 scrambled eggs is a lot.

Salmonala aside its still better to eat you eggs cooked or even fried, the body has trouble digesting raw eggs and a lot of the protein just passes through the system! I would also rather eat the oats with warm water, processed crabs is processed crabs is processed crabs

and if you get that unlucky egg out of the 30 000? stranger things have happened. but eating raw eggs isnt a smart idea, not because of salmonella, but because your body doesnt absorb all the protein. so eating those 6 raw eggs is like eating 2 cooked ones. it takes 7mins to boil an egg

Im not saying you wont get salmonella poisoning i eat 56 raw eggs a week and have never had a problem, but the chances on contracting are 1 in every 20 000 eggs, you are MUCH more likely to get salmonella poisoning from vegetables more specifically unwashed green leafy ones...

Im trying to find the site where i saw the stats of the number of people infected with salmonella every year in the USA and what food stuffs caused it, if i remember correctly eggs were almost last on the list with very few people infected in comparison to vegetables...ill post the link when i find it

@stanabolic- was it as bad as ppl make it out to be?

This is a extract from the site

" A 2002 study by U.S. Department of Agriculture found that the risk of egg-borne salmonella was less than previously thought. The USDA study found that of the 69 billion eggs produced each year in the U.S., only 2.3 million are contaminated with salmonella. That’s 1 in every 30,000 eggs. Even then, the salmonella may have not even penetrated the shell, so smart handling and additional washing of the egg can decrease that risk. "

Also " Some eggs are contaminated with salmonella, but the cause comes from a chicken that is unhealthy. It is also important to mention that the average infected egg is only one in 30,000. Even though the odds of eating an infected egg in your lifetime is relatively small, if you eat eggs that come from healthy, cage free chickens who are feed a healthy organic diet the odds are almost removed. "

I never worried about tha salmonella but what you said about the protein absorption definitely makes sense to cook them, ive been wasting my time and eggs eating them raw...thanks RVP +1 for the info!

Digestibility of Cooked and Raw Egg Protein in Humans

The study found protein from cooked eggs is absorbed by the body at a rate of 91 percent, while only 50 percent of raw egg protein is absorbed. According to researchers, the higher rate of protein absorption from cooked eggs results from the structural changes in the protein molecule induced by heating. -Cook your eggs! ;)

That is just it, I didn't even get it from raw eggs. From the experience I had with Salmonella, if there is indeed a risk of it from raw eggs then I would avoid it just because I know how it feels. Without exaggeration it was the worst week of my life.

Hey Samurai_X, yeah oatmeal does change a bit. Unlike vegetables that become (ever so slightly) more glycemic when cooked, the opposite happens to oats, it's GI gets lowered (not by large amounts). Also oats has the capability to hold loads of water. So for a PreWO I prefer it cooked, as the water is already absorbed and it feels like I am eating more.<OM NOM NOM> As apposed to me drinking water later and feeling bloated. If you are bulking and having trouble getting all your healthy carbs and calories in, eat it uncooked.

Hey Furk, thanks for the feedback. I'm on Lean Bulk at the moment, the only reason why i don't cook it is because of time and 150g cooked oats is a hell of a lot to take in before gym and even in the morning. I just put the oats in a blender, but if the nutritional values or abortion change / differ then i will have to cook it.

Samurai_X, do you eat 150g for breakfast and later another 150g for pre-WO? If it's in your calories for the day don't cook it. 150g will come to a bit less than 4 cups cooked, that's a lot man. If you can get 150g dry in and feel regular after you drink water don't bother. GI for cooked is about 15 and uncooked 30.

If you want to cook it and are short of time; the night before, put it in equal parts boiling water and cover the container. The next morning it will be semi-cooked, but good enough for me.

Does this also apply to liquid egg whites? The ones that are pasteurised?

6 boiled eggs are definitely more easier to eat than scrambled or raw eggs. Just wondering - what do you guys eat with your boiled eggs?
